It’s a process, but second year head coach Greg Heffernan is working toward bringing the Golden Bears to marks they haven’t reached in years. Western New England hasn’t broken the 10-win mark since 1999-2000, or posting a winning record since 1993-94, but with an infusion of new players, there’s hope for the coming years.<\/p>\n
“I’m hoping that we are able to compete at a higher level this season,” Heffernan said. “We have a lot of new faces in our lineup this year and I’m excited to see how they will adapt to the college game.”<\/p>\n
The Golden Bears are led by \u00a0junior captain Kory Grahl (10-16).<\/p>\n
“Kory is a top academic performer; he led our team in scoring and was our fittest athlete last season,” Heffernan said.<\/p>\n
He’ll be replacing graduate student Chris Gillman as captain.<\/p>\n
“We will miss his experience, leadership and defensive ability,” Heffernan said of Gillman.<\/p>\n
Despite being an inexperienced team, Western New England’s depth will be one of its strong points heading into the season.<\/p>\n
“Coach [Chris] Bernard put in some solid pieces before I got here and I think we’ve added some more solid pieces this year. We are going to have to continue to add solid pieces in the future,” Heffernan said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
