{"id":36314,"date":"2011-03-24T06:57:08","date_gmt":"2011-03-24T11:57:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.uscho.com\/?p=36314"},"modified":"2011-03-28T09:41:51","modified_gmt":"2011-03-28T14:41:51","slug":"castleton-states-harris-named-concannon-award-winner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.uscho.com\/2011\/03\/24\/castleton-states-harris-named-concannon-award-winner\/","title":{"rendered":"Castleton State&#8217;s Harris named Concannon Award winner"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Castleton State sophomore forward Josh Harris has been named the winner of the 11th annual Joe Concannon Award, which recognizes New England&#8217;s best American-born hockey player at the Division II-III level.<\/p>\n<p>Harris, a Torrance, Calif., native,&#160;led the nation in points-per-game for the Spartans, leading the team in scoring with 16 goals and 34 assists for 50 points.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is a great recognition for Josh after the great season he had for us,&#8221; Castleton State coach Alex Todd said in a statement. &#8220;He came into the season saying he wanted to create a different kind of experience for himself this year and really worked hard to make it happen. His line with Stuart (Stefan) and Justin (Alonzo) was as good as anybody we saw all year and Josh&#8217;s consistency all season was a big part of our team&#8217;s success this year.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The other finalists for the Concannon Award included forward Daniel Weiniger from Bowdoin College, goaltender Ryan Purdy from Williams College, Jeremiah Ketts from Johnson and Wales and defenseman Ryan Warsofsky from Curry College.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With the high levels of intensity and competitiveness in all conferences, this year has set a new level of performance in hockey at the Division II and III levels in New England,&#8221; noted committee chairman Tim Costello in the same statement. &#8220;Each one of our nominees had an outstanding season. Our five finalists from the very talented field of nominees truly distinguished themselves among the players in their own conferences as well as the New England area overall. All were leaders on campus as well as on the ice. Josh Harris displayed superior hockey skills in one of the nation&#8217;s premier conferences, as well as leadership and sportsmanship.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He most definitely has earned his place among the group of distinguished winners of the Concannon Award.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Harris will be formally presented his award at the New England Hockey Writers&#8217; Dinner on Wednesday, April 13.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Castleton State sophomore forward Josh Harris has been named the winner of the 11th annual Joe Concannon Award, which recognizes New England&#8217;s best American-born hockey player at the Division II-III level.
