Quinnipiac announced Monday that head coach Rand Pecknold has signed a contract extension that will keep him behind the Bobcats’ bench through the 2016-17 season.

“I’m very excited with my new contract extension,” Pecknold said in a statement. “I look forward to another five years at Quinnipiac and hopefully beyond. I’m thankful to president John Lahey, vice president Mark Thompson and director of athletics Jack McDonald for the resources and support that have made Quinnipiac successful. I’m very excited for the upcoming year at the TD Bank Sports Center.”

In 2011-12, Pecknold, in his 18th season as Quinnipiac’s head coach, guided the Bobcats to a 20-14-6 overall mark, giving Pecknold 20-win seasons in 14 out of his 18 years behind the bench.

Overall, Pecknold’s career record stands at 337-230-62, ranking among the top 10 in active coaches in Division I hockey.

Pecknold is a two-time Spencer Penrose Award finalist and was the 2005 Atlantic Hockey coach of the year.
