Canisius announced Monday that Trevor Large, a veteran assistant coach in Atlantic Hockey for eight seasons, and Scott Moser, a former forward with the program, have been named assistant coaches.

Large and Moser replace B.J. Adams and John Daigneau, who were dismissed in March.

“It’s an exciting time for Canisius hockey and the addition of Trevor and Scott to our coaching staff adds another level to that,” Canisius head coach Dave Smith said in a statement. “Trevor is an experienced coach who arrives on campus after working at a prestigious college in Army. During his time in West Point, he was able to develop strong recruiting links in the United States, including in the USHL, and as a Canadian, he now also has the opportunity to utilize his strong ties in our natural footprint of Ontario. We’re thrilled to be able to welcome him, his wife, Molly, and their son, Brody, to Western New York.

“It’s also great for the program to be able to add an alum in Scott to the staff. Scott has been associated with the team for nearly a decade and he will be able to draw from his experiences as a student-athlete at Canisius and continue to raise the bar for the program. It’s an exhilarating time for the Western New York hockey community with the addition of the HarborCenter and as a native of the area and alum of Canisius, it’s great to see that excitement that Scott will be able to bring to the program.”

Large spent the last six seasons at Army, serving as the program’s assistant coach, recruiting coordinator and video coordinator and prior to joining the Black Knights, Large spent two seasons at American International from 2006 to 2008.

At both Army and AIC, Large helped land each team’s first-ever recruits from the USHL.

“I am extremely excited to be joining the Canisius program,” Large said in a statement. “Over the last several years, I have watched the stellar job that Coach Smith has done and how hard his team has played. As an assistant coach of a competing school, the success has been tough to watch. I now can’t wait to get started and assist in those efforts of building a team that consistently competes for league championships. Between the HarborCenter, the core of returning players and a strong recruiting class, great things are happening at Canisius and I am looking forward to being a part of it.”

Large played four seasons at Ferris State from 2000 to 2004, helping the Bulldogs to the 2003 CCHA regular-season championship and first-ever NCAA tournament appearance.

Moser returns to Buffalo after spending the 2013-14 season at St. Lawrence as director of hockey operations with the women’s team.

A two-sport athlete at Canisius, Moser captained the Griffs during the 2011-12 campaign. He was a nominee for the Hockey Humanitarian Award in 2011 and the Derek Hines Unsung Hero Award in 2012. He was also a four-year letterwinner with the golf program at Canisius.

“I’m extremely excited to be back at Canisius,” Moser added. “To be coaching Division I hockey in my hometown is an opportunity I’m very thankful for. It’s great to see how much this program has grown over the years and I’m looking forward to being part of a new era of Griffs hockey at HarborCenter.”
