Former Maine, Harvard and Northeastern assistant coach Gene Reilly has been named to that same position at Colorado College.

Reilly spent the last two seasons as a professional scout with the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes.

He spent three years at Maine, helping the Black Bears win the 1999 national championship and serving as the interim head coach while Shawn Walsh was undergoing cancer treatments.

After spending the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons with Ottawa’s AHL affiliates in Grand Rapids, Mich., and Binghamton, N.Y., he spent a year at Harvard.

Reilly then spent four seasons at Northeastern starting in 2004.

An Elmira alum like new Colorado College coach Mike Haviland, Reilly also has coached in Austria.

“Gene will be a great addition to our staff,” Haviland said in a statement. “I have known Gene for over 25 years. He’s a great teacher and pays attention to the details of every aspect of the game.

“Gene will bring a winning tradition with him, along with his passion and enthusiasm for coaching. Gene has proven throughout his career in coaching that he has an impeccable work ethic and I am proud to have him working alongside me.”
