{"id":59054,"date":"2014-07-03T21:58:10","date_gmt":"2014-07-04T02:58:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.uscho.com\/?p=59054"},"modified":"2014-07-03T21:58:10","modified_gmt":"2014-07-04T02:58:10","slug":"barr-leaving-providence-for-western-michigan-associate-head-coach-job","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.uscho.com\/2014\/07\/03\/barr-leaving-providence-for-western-michigan-associate-head-coach-job\/","title":{"rendered":"Barr leaving Providence for Western Michigan associate head coach job"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Providence assistant Ben Barr is moving to Western Michigan to be associate head coach.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mlive.com\/broncos\/index.ssf\/2014\/06\/wmu_hockey_program_to_hire_pro.html\" target=\"_blank\"><i>Kalamazoo Gazette<\/i><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.providencejournal.com\/sports\/college\/providence-college\/content\/20140629-pc-hockey-assistant-ben-barr-leaves-for-western-michigan.ece\" target=\"_blank\"><i>Providence Journal<\/i><\/a> both reported the move, which won&#8217;t be official until paperwork is completed at Western Michigan.<\/p>\n<p>Barr moved to Providence from Union when Nate Leaman was named the Friars&#8217; head coach in 2011. And he played for Western Michigan coach Andy Murray at Shattuck-St. Mary&#8217;s prep school.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It the toughest decision I&#8217;ve ever had to make, but for my development it&#8217;s something I have to do. It will be a great thing for me,&#8221; Barr told the <i>Providence Journal<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s probably one guy in college hockey that I would go [and work] for outside of Nate. And it was Andy. &#8230; Nate&#8217;s been the best friend to me.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Barr replaces Rob Facca, who <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uscho.com\/2014\/06\/18\/western-michigan-associate-head-coach-facca-leaves-for-chicago-scouting-position\/\" target=\"_blank\">left for a scouting position with the Chicago Blackhawks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Providence will have two new assistant coaches next season.
