{"id":59374,"date":"2014-09-18T10:49:56","date_gmt":"2014-09-18T15:49:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.uscho.com\/?p=59374"},"modified":"2014-09-18T10:50:37","modified_gmt":"2014-09-18T15:50:37","slug":"western-connecticut-state-adding-mens-hockey-for-15-16-will-join-mascac","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.uscho.com\/2014\/09\/18\/western-connecticut-state-adding-mens-hockey-for-15-16-will-join-mascac\/","title":{"rendered":"Western Connecticut State adding men&#8217;s hockey for &#8217;15-16, will join MASCAC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Western Connecticut State University has added a Division III men&#8217;s hockey program that will play a full schedule as an affiliate member of the MASCAC during the 2015-16 season.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The MASCAC is excited to welcome Western Connecticut State University as a men&#8217;s ice hockey affiliate,&#8221; said MASCAC commissioner Angela Baumann said in a statement. &#8220;MASCAC hockey has proven to be a quality league with outstanding competition and exciting games. We are looking forward to welcoming the Colonial&#8217;s student-athletes in 2015-2016.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Colonials will play their home games at the Danbury Arena, approximately one half mile from the school&#8217;s Midtown campus. The arena currently houses the Danbury Whalers of the Federal Hockey League and was home of the WCSU men&#8217;s club team, which had been a member of the ACHA since 1994.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is an exciting move for Colonial athletics,&#8221; added WCSU athletic director Ed Farrington. &#8220;Western ice hockey has enjoyed many years of success as a club sport and we intend on building a competitive and respected program as we move into the intercollegiate ranks.
