Five different players scored and 12 players in total tallied points to lead the U.S. National Junior Team to a 5-2 victory over Slovakia Wednesday night in Toronto at the Air Canada Centre in its second preliminary-round game of the 2017 World Junior Championship.<\/p>\n

[scg_html_wjc2017]”Our guys came to play and it was nice to see them get rewarded,” said Team USA coach Bob Motzko (St. Cloud State) in a news release. “Nobody’s satisfied, though, and I think that’s the right attitude as we continue here in the tournament.<\/p>\n

“We know our best hockey is yet to come and we’ll look for more improvements tomorrow versus Russia.”<\/p>\n

Tage Thompson (Connecticut), Charlie McAvoy (Boston University), Troy Terry (Denver), Colin White (Boston College) and Tanner Laczynski (Ohio State) scored for the U.S., while Jack Roslovic (formerly of Miami) posted two assists.<\/p>\n

Joseph Woll (Boston College) made 18 stops in net for the Americans.<\/p>\n

North Dakota goalie Matej Tomek suffered the loss in goal for Slovakia, making 45 saves.<\/p>\n
