Alaska has announced the addition of Lincoln Nguyen as the team’s new assistant coach.

“I am beyond excited to become part of the Nanook family and the Fairbanks community,” Nguyen said in a news release. “I would like to thank Dr. Gray, Coach (Lance) West and Coach (Erik) Largen for this opportunity. I look forward to being a part of this family and continuing the strong tradition that is UAF hockey.”

Nguyen joins West and Largen after spending the 2016-17 season as head coach at Marian. In his inaugural season as bench boss, Nguyen led the Sabres to a 15-10-1 overall record and 12-7-1 in NCHA play.

“We are excited and feel very fortunate to add Lincoln the Nanook hockey coaching staff.” West added. “Lincoln is an excellent young coach who will have an immediate impact on the development of our players and our program. His character and attitude will be an excellent example for our players and he will be a great representative of the Alaska hockey program, the University of Alaska Fairbanks and the community of Fairbanks going forward.”

Prior to taking over the head coaching position at Marian in August 2016, Nguyen served as the assistant coach under Largen, who was Marian’s head coach for the 2015-16 campaign before he replaced Corbin Schmidt as the assistant coach with the Nanooks last season.

“Lincoln’s coaching and recruiting experience at Marian and in the NAHL make him an excellent match to our program’s goals and identity,” West concluded.

As a player, Nguyen was a goaltender at St. Mary’s and later graduated from the same university in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in graphic design.
