Colgate has announced the addition of Dana Borges as an assistant coach for the Raiders men’s team.

“We are thrilled to have Dana Borges join the Colgate men’s hockey staff,” said Colgate head coach Don Vaughan in a statement. “He is a rising star in the college hockey world and one of the brightest young minds in the game. His innovative approach to the sport and his exceptional communication skills are just a couple of the qualities that stood out during the interview process.”

Borges served as the Raiders volunteer assistant coach for the 2016-17 season.

“He is also someone who knows our student athletes well since he served as our volunteer assistant coach for the 2016-17 season,” added Vaughan. “He gained first-hand experience and an inside look at the Colgate hockey culture, and perhaps most importantly, he learned from his time here just what it takes to be a successful Colgate student-athlete. This will serve him well on the recruiting trail and we expect that he will hit the ground running.”

Most recently, Borges joined the Alaska Anchorage program as an assistant coach from June 2018 through August 2018.

Prior to Anchorage, Borges spent the 2017-18 season at Williams as an assistant coach.

“Colgate fosters a mindset of excellence on and off the ice,” Borges said. “I am grateful to be working with the student-athletes, staff, faculty, and Colgate hockey community that embody this mindset. Thank you Coach Vaughan for affording me this opportunity. It’s great to be back.”

Getting his start in collegiate coaching, Borges spent two seasons as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Stonehill.

From 2009 to 2013, Borges played with the Skyhawks where he served as captain for his junior and senior seasons. Borges was named the Northeast-10 Man of the Year in 2013 as well as a Capital One All-American. He was also awarded the Father Jack McCarthy Award and Edward E. Martin Outstanding Student-Athlete Award from Stonehill, also finishing as a semifinalist for the Joseph Concannon Award.

On the ice at Stonehill, Borges recorded 29 goals and 58 assists for 87 points. He graduated magna cum laude in 2013 with a degree in sociology.

Borges then played professionally for one season with the Evry Peaux Rouges of the French Division.
