No. 4 Minnesota State used solid defense and opportunistic scoring to knock off in-state rival No. 10 Minnesota in the first of a two-game non-league series (photo: Jim Rosvold).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Minnesota State got two goals in the opening period and then scored in the opening minute of both the second and third periods while skating to an easy 5-1 victory over in-state rival Minnesota in the Twin Cities on Friday.<\/p>\n

Dallas Gerads, Charlie Gerard, Nick Rivera and Marc Michaelis all tallied for the visiting Mavericks to earn the 4-1 cushion early in the third.<\/p>\n

Michaelis’ shorthanded tally late accounted for the 5-1 final. He finished the game with four points (two goals, two assists).<\/p>\n

The win is the third straight for Minnesota State, which improved to 6-1-0 and has played five of its seven games against nationally-ranked opponents.<\/p>\n

No. 7 Ohio State 1, No. 5 Notre Dame 0<\/strong>
\nMason Jobst scored the games only goal at the 8:59 mark of the first period as Ohio State earned the 1-0 victory over Notre Dame.<\/p>\n

The loss extended Notre Dame’s losing streak to three games.<\/p>\n

Cale Morris made 22 saves for Notre Dame while Sean Romeo stopped all 23 shots he saw to earn the shutout victory.<\/p>\n

No. 14 North Dakota 5, No. 16 Wisconsin 0<\/strong><\/p>\n

A hat trick by North Dakota’s Rhett Gardner, his first three goals of the season, paced the No. 14 Fighting Hawks past No. 12 Wisconsin, 5-0.<\/p>\n

Gardner tallied in each period sandwiching goals by Jacob Bernard-Docker and Colton Pollman.<\/p>\n
