Women’s D-III action commenced this weekend. Here are the highlights from the first weekend of play.<\/p>\n

\nFive different Foresters scored on Saturday to give Lake Forest the 5-1 win, but St. Catherine won 3-2 in overtime on Sunday to earn the weekend split. St. Catherine scored twice in the second to take the lead over Lake Forest, but the Foresters tied it up just a few minutes into the third. Cassie Thomas scored her first of the season just over three minutes into overtime to give St. Catherine the upset win.<\/p>\n
\nThe teams traded goals, with neither gaining more than a goal advantage, but overtime was not enough to find a winner in this one. Shannon Hickey scored twice for Plymouth State and Erin Gehen scored just 18 seconds into the game for Buffalo State.<\/p>\n
\nSt. Mary’s scored the first three goals, including the first career goal from Anya Hafiz. Marian scored three in the third frame to make it interesting, but the Cardinals were able to secure coach Terry Mannor’s 100th collegiate career win<\/p>\n
\nAll seven goals were scored in the first 36 minutes. Augsburg jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead before UWS was able to tie it up before the end of the first frame. The Auggies added two more, including the eventual game-winner by Mackenzie Molnar, before midway through the second.<\/p>\n
\nThe teams combined for seven third-period goals, including six in the final two minutes, but St. Mary’s was able to win their second in a row to open the season.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
